Feel rather enraged seeing someone preach about love after smacking the shit out of someone moments prior. Especially with such a patriarchal rhetoric to justify doing so.
Men get hurt (in this case on behalf of one of the women who he proclaimed himself as ‘the protector’ of in his acceptance speech), men get angry, and men turn to violence (both physical and sexual) to express it. Nothing new.
Look forward to a day when men accept and love themselves as human beings, understand their emotions enough to communicate them constructively, and don’t resort to this behaviour to express their pain without consequence.
I also look forward to a day when violence between men isn’t accepted, expected, and laughed off during acceptance speeches.
